Soccer was taking its first steps in Portugal when, on February 28, 1904, a new club was born for the simple pleasure of playing. In a short time, Sport Lisboa e Benfica became the most popular club in Lisbon and, later, in Portugal, becoming the holder of the largest number of titles in the main national football competitions: 36 National Championships, 26 National Cups Portugal, 3 Portuguese Championships, 7 Super Cups and 7 League Cups. With the achievement of the Latin Cup in 1950 and the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1961 and 1962, he also became a great power in European football and his fame ran the world.
Benfica of the new millennium continues to honor its past, making history. In 2012/13 the return to the European finals was given. In the following season, it returned to presence in a European final and won all the national competitions.
